Spork?

A spork? Yes, a spork. You know the half spoon, half fork utensil that has amazed diners for many many years. A spork is basically a spoon with either three or four prongs on the end. It has often puzzled me as to why the spork has never reached the popularity as say "the fork", "the spoon" or even "the knife". So this became my goal, to try and figure out what could cause this seemingly ingenious product to not receive the accolades it deserves. Here are the results of my endless hours of research.

As I see it there are many uses for a spork. First is the obvious time saved in using one utensil rather than switching back and forth between a spoon and fork. Also, sporks have widely accepted as the utensil of choice when eating cole slaw and potato salad. Besides that sporks are particularly useful in launching peas, mashed potatoes and other such side dishes.

Now on to some reasons on why I think the spork has not got it's just due. I would have to say a main issue on why the spork has not made it into households is that housewives cannot figure out where the spork would go in placesetting. As I've come to understand through my research one would simply substitute the fork with the spork leaving the knife and salad fork. One would never use a spork to eat salad, this would be a huge no-no. Another possible reason for unpopularity is overuse. Never, I repeat, never try to push the idea of the spork. Only use it with appropriate meals. Using a spork to eat soup and or sauces is just silly, come on people. And perhaps the biggest reason for it not being well known is it's absence from nearly all major resteraunts. KFC and Taco Bell being the exceptions. Good job boys!

With all this said I've come to the conclusion that in order for the spork to one day rise up and be known it will need someone to lead the revolution. Although I have deeply rooted feelings about this subject I do not feel I am "the one". It is my hope that one day the world will realize how wonderful the spork really is and it's negative stigma will finally be erased.
